Highly popular band leader and close friend of George Gershwin. Whiteman, with Gershwin at the piano, introduced “Rhapsody in Blue” to the public in 1924, recording it later that same year. Vintage matte-finish 7.25 x 9.5 Abbe photo of Whiteman holding his violin, signed and inscribed in fountain pen “To Kathryn, From the fat fiddler, Paul Whiteman.” Also signed in the lower right by the photographer.
