Exceedingly rare bank check, 6 x 2.75, filled out in type and signed by Hoover, payable to Bernice Miller for $500.00, November 25, 1936. Miss Bernice Miller was the former President’s personal secretary for almost 30 years. When he died in 1964 at the age of 90, Hoover left her a bequest of $5,000 a year. A light vertical fold, through a single letter of signature, expected cancellation holes to body, slight show-through from stamps on reverse, and a light shade of toning, otherwise fine condition. In the last 30 years, only four other Hoover signed checks have appeared at public auction. The most recent of the four, a never-cashed check payable to check collector Waldo C. Moore for one cent, sold at Christie’s New York in 1999 for $6,900. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
