Description

Ronnie Wood’s original oversized portrait of guitar god Jimmy Page

Fantastic original India ink and felt tip sketch of Jimmy Page on a 21.5 x 31.25 off-white heavy stock Colyer and Southey C. S. 10 Supreme Line Board lightly color washed with gray and light blue watercolor, signed at the bottom, “Ronnie Wood, Dec. ‘83.” In fine condition, with a bit of trivial foxing to background and tape remnants to reverse.

Guitarist/bassist for the immortal Rolling Stones, Wood is also well-known as an artist. His works, often portraits of his fellow musicians, have been exhibited all over the world. He created this stunning piece during the ARMS (Action Research into Multiple Sclerosis) tour in December, 1983. Wood and Beck, along with Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Joe Cocker, Bill Wyman, Charlie Watts, and other rockers performed at Madison Square Garden to raise money for MS research on behalf of Ronnie Lane of the Faces. Lane, a victim of the disease and activist for the cause, was still alive at the time and also performed.

Wood did four paintings in this series and gave them to Lane, who hung them in his office in the ARMS headquarters in Houston. When the organization was dismantled due to embezzlement charges, the assets were auctioned off. Uncommon in this size, this piece stands alone as a pensive study of one of the most iconic Rock guitarists of all time. . Pre-certified Roger Epperson/REAL and RRAuction COA.
