Description

“In space every human being is an ‘invalid.’ To live and work, an Astronaut depends upon dozens of mechanical and electrical gadgets.”

Two different color 8 x 10 NASA photos, including one of Peterson during a space walk, each signed and inscribed in black felt tip; and a lengthy four page ALS from Peterson, no date, on 8.5 x 11 lightly-lined sheet. Peterson writes to a young girl recovering from several surgeries. In part: “Outer space is not a friendly environment, indeed a man or woman cannot survive for more than a few seconds if he or she is actually exposed to space. Human beings are simply not suited for living or working in space. But, we do it! We need oxygen to breath and air pressure to keep our bodies from exploding…In fact, taking a bath or going to the bathroom in zero gravity would be impossible if our ingenious technicians had not devised complicated systems which combine fans and pumps to create an artificial flow of air…If we have to go outside the cabin to work, we must wear pressurized oxygen filled suits and wear special underwear with dozens of water tubes to keep us cool…My point, Kathy, is that in space every human being is an ‘invalid.’ To live and work, an Astronaut depends upon dozens of mechanical and electrical gadgets.” In fine condition. Pre-certified Scott Cornish and RRAuction COA.
