TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, United States Senate letterhead, March 12, 1991. Letter regarding a question about ‘nose art’ and the naming of aircraft. In part: “On my orbital flight in February, 1962, the spacecraft was named Friendship 7. The name was picked by my children because it indicated what they felt represented the U. S. view of what we hoped our relationship would be with the rest of the world. The 7 stood for the 7 original astronauts that were involved in that program.” In fine condition.
