Original 4 x 2.5 membership card for the Society of American Magicians, set to expire in June 1926, issued to J. C. Wobensmith (the reverse of the card lists the club’s generous hospital benefits). Boldly signed “Houdini” as president of the organization. In fine condition, with scattered light soiling.
Wobensmith was a famous patent attorney in Philadelphia who, in addition to using a few court room tricks, also enjoyed a little sleight of hand. Houdini had served as president of the S.A.M. from 1917 until his death on October 31, 1926. A “magical” treasure signed by the master escape artist a few months before the punch that would lead to his death. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
