Signed book: Bambi. NY: Grosset and Dunlap. Hardcover, 6 x 8. Signed in green crayon on the inside front cover, “Walt Disney.” Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Phil Sears. Beautifully suede matted and framed so that the inside cover and title page are displayed, with nicely hand-done color sketches and highlights to mat, and a small name plaque, to an overall size of 24.25 x 25. In fine condition, with light remnant of an erased owner’s signature above Disney’s, a mild shade of toning, and a small strip of tape and some slight cover loss to lower right corner of the page.
According to the provenance, the original recipient had attended a private presentation and showing of Alice in Wonderland, which had not yet been released. Afterward, those in attendance were given a signed Bambi book, this being one of them. Alice in Wonderland took five years to complete, finally reaching theaters in 1951. Incidentally, this was the first feature film for which Walt Disney was able to use television for cross-promotion. His first television program, One Hour in Wonderland, which was broadcast on Christmas evening of 1950, was devoted to the production of this film. Impeccable provenance and an eye-catching example of Disney’s signature contained within a childhood classic! Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
