American actress (1905–1935) best remembered for her appearances in such comedy classics as Monkey Business, Horse Feathers, and Another Fine Mess. Though her death from carbon monoxide poisoning at the age of 30 was ruled an accident, suspicious circumstances led to a number of theories of varying plausibility, including speculation that she was the victim of a “hit” ordered by gangster “Lucky” Luciano.
