Description

Writing to the agent appointed to protect her children, Jackie remembers “the happy days Caroline and John spent with you”

TLS signed “Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis,” one page, 5.75 x 7.75, personal letterhead, September 28, 1978. Jackie writes to Secret Service agent Robert Foster. In full: “I am very disappointed I will not be able to attend the luncheon which the Secret Service is planning in your honor on September 28th but you will be in my thoughts that day. I shall always remember the happy days Caroline and John spent with you and the Secret Service has been most fortunate in having such a dedicated and devoted agent on the force all these years. I am certain you will be greatly missed and I send you my very best wishes for the future.” In fine condition.

Robert W. Foster (1930-2008) was one of the five Secret Service agents assigned to the protection of Mrs. Kennedy and her children from January 1961 until they moved to New York City in 1964. During the funeral procession for President Kennedy, Foster walked next to the car carrying the late President’s children, holding six-year-old Caroline’s hand through the opened window. He retired from the Secret Service in 1978, and he was honored at a luncheon. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
