ALS signed “Wellington,” two pages on two adjoining sheets, 7.25 x 9, December 16, 1819. Letter to an unidentified Lord regarding Lieutenant Colonel Freemantle, in full: “I enclose a letter from Lt. Col. Freemantle in which he informs me that the King of Saxony has been pleased to confirm upon him the Military Order of St. Henry. As Lt. Col. Freemantle was attached to the headquarters of the Army of Occupation in which the King of Saxony had a contingent. I beg leave to recommend that his application for His Royal Highness the Prince Regent’s Permission to accept this mark of the King of Saxony’s approbation of his services may be granted. Lt. Colonel Freemantle is going to the West Indies on Monday and he is very anxious to be made acquainted with His Royal Highness’ pleasure upon the subject of this application previous to his departure. I have the honor to be, my dear Lord, your Lordship’s most obedient and faithful humble servant.” In fine condition, with intersecting folds and scattered light toning and soiling. Lt. Col.
