Fabled queen of Louis XVI of France (1755–1793) whose public execution, along with that of her husband, was the most grisly, visible, and powerful symbol of the political aims of the French Revolution. Handwritten endorsement, in French, signed “Marie Antoinette,” on the left side of a 6 x 5 partial manuscript document, dated June 1778. Marie Antoinette pens three lines providing a recommendation of her personal guard, signing boldly at the conclusion. Beautifully double cloth matted and framed with a color portrait of Marie Antoinette and a biographical plaque, to an overall size of 28 x 27. Document dates from the time when Benjamin Franklin was in Paris negotiating France’s military involvement in the American Revolution. In fine condition, with trimmed edges, two light vertical folds, one through first letter of signature, and slight paper remnants and trivial hole to left edge.
