TLS, one page, 8 x 10.5, United States Senate letterhead, February 24, 1954. Letter to a young man regarding an appointment to the Military Academy. In part: “The members of the Selection Board have notified me that most reluctantly they were unable to nominate you for an appointment to the Military Academy. They have, however, informed me that the calibre [sic] of the candidates in this year’s competition, was extremely high, and that therefore the competition was most keen. Consequently, I want to assure you your failure to be selected in no way reflects against your own record or background…I do, however, want to extend to you my personal thanks for having participated in the competition, and I hope that you will continue your efforts to pursue a career as an officer in the United States Army.” In fine condition, with a small brush to end of Kennedy’s signature, and a light vertical crease to top right. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
