Ryan, in full: “I am glad to hear of your interest in a political career because the future of the country will some day depend upon the patriotism, abilities and interest in government of young men such as yourself. As you know, in a free country such as ours, politics is government. It means you must know history and what goes on and are willing to work at it. A political career begins at the precinct level and from there on your future will be limited only by your character, ambitions, ability and the amount of effort and interest you are willing to put forth in order to reach whatever objective you may desire in life. I wish you a great future!” No information could be found as to whether Ryan headed Truman’s advice and entered into politics. In fine condition, with tape remnants to each corner and at the center of each edge (which can be matted out), a vertical fold lightly touching the top of the signature, and a vertical crease at bottom.
