Wealthy entrepreneur, philanthropist, and abolitionist of 19th century Baltimore (1795-1873), now most noted for his philanthropic creation of the institutions that bear his name, namely the Johns Hopkins University, Johns Hopkins Hospital, and Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Partly-printed DS, one page, 10.25 x 6.25, July 16, 1856. Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Company stock certificate for 100 shares issued to George Hartzog, signed at the bottom by Hopkins as treasurer. A couple light vertical wrinkles, light show-through from signature on reverse, and a bit of ink erosion to signature, otherwise fine condition. RRAuction COA.
