Description

Truman sends information on an American P.O.W. during World War II

TLS, one page, 8 x 10.25, January 17, 1944. Truman writes to A. L. Knudstad in Clayton, Missouri. In full: “I am attaching some information regarding the case of Harold N. Wilson, who is in Japanese custody in the Far East. The enclosures are self-explanatory….” Wilson (1893–1969), a civilian engineer, was held for a time in the Japanese prison camp at Los Banos, the Phillippines. According to an account by his son, who was enlisted in the Army at the time, Wilson emerged from the camp “skin and bones at 110 lbs. but OK.” Intersecting folds (vertical fold to first name) and a few creases and wrinkles, otherwise fine condition. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
