This copy of Ilya Repin’s seated portrait of Russian composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov was signed by its esteemed subject. The vintage, 4.75 x 7 book photo pictures Rimsky-Korsakov seated on a sofa, and holding a cigarette. Along the lower border, “N. Rimsky-Korsakov” projects boldly in black fountain pen. The photograph is tastefully affixed to an identically sized sheet of heavier stock, which admittedly improves the item’s durability. Light rippling from adhesive is present on the reverse, which lightly touches upon the composer’s flowing hand. Also present are scattered areas of light surface rubbing, mild edge wear, and a vertical crease to the left edge, otherwise fine condition. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
