ALS signed “Ron,” one page, lightly-lined, 8.5 x 11, no date. California Governor Ronald Reagan (1911-2004) wrote and signed this interesting note. We deduce from certain acknowledgments made by Reagan in the carefully written letter that the future president was thanking its recipient, Montana Governor Tim Babcock, for his superb hospitality on what was presumably a pleasure visit to the Treasure State. In part, the message reads: “Now that the battle of Jackson Hole is ended and hopefully you are back home, let me tell you how very much I appreciated your great hospitality. You really scared me with the thought that someday I might have to live up to the grace you set as hosts … My first day back in the office I came directly from the plane so at least got to wear those clothes you provided. It really wasn’t necessary but just keeping the jeans on made it seem like the trip wasn’t quite over … You’ve made a disciple of me … for that beautiful country of yours. One day soon I hope the whole family will try to take a look at Montana. – Again Thanks & Best Regards (signed) Ron.” Reagan’s writing is clear and noticeably neat, still affording complete legibility. In fine condition. No doubt history buffs are privy to the fact that Reagan starred in the 1954 film “Cattle Queen of Montana.” But it should come as no surprise that the ol’ cowboy found wearing jeans so unfamiliar given his more recent foray into the suit-and-tie world of American politics.
