Description

Viscount Samuel Hood

British admiral (1724–1816) who fought in the Revolutionary War and later served as Mediterranean Commander-in-Chief in the early years of the French Revolution. ALS signed “Hood,” one page, 7.5 x 9.5, July 15, 1790. Hood writes to Even Pepean, Esq. In part: “I beg to trouble you to present to Mr. Grenville the accompanying memorial which I the more readily do, having good reason to believe that if it is referred to the justices in Scotland they are prepared to make a favorable report, which will lead to the memorialist’s prayer being attended to. Pray to whom am I to write to make enquiry what is become of Flood who was on board the Censor hulk & pardoned? Has McMullin a pardon & where is he? I think you said that Lyons cannot be pardoned.” In fine condition, with a hint of mild toning and tiny edge separations at folds. RRAuction COA.
