Hancock writes to Thomas D. Suplée regarding the late Col. Richard Realf. In part: “At the time mentioned in your letter—1867–8—this island was a depot for infantry recruits for the Army, but in 1878 the depot was removed to David’s Island, N.Y. Harbor, and doubtless the records of 1867 were sent to the Adjutant General’s office….
