Description

“After the overthrow of my government I was compelled to go underground during the initial months of the Bolshevik tyranny and had I really been taken prisoner there would not be a chance in a million to survive”

Provisional leader of the Soviet Union (1881–1970) from July to November 1917, when he was unseated by Lenin and forced into exile. TLS signed “A. Kerensky,” one page, 7 x 9.5, personal letterhead, March 16, 1962. Kerensky writes to the noted collector the Reverend Cornelius Greenway. In part: “It might be of interest to you that in this respect I was luckier than you—I have never been wounded or taken prisoner by the Bolsheviks. After the overthrow of my government I was compelled to go underground during the initial months of the Bolshevik tyranny and had I really been taken prisoner there would not be a chance in a million to survive. It was very dangerous but an interesting period of my life….” In very good condition, with allover uneven toning (faint tiny spots) and light handling wear. The signature is clear and dark.
