Description

Johnny Evers

This colorful FDC was issued in honor of baseball’s Centennial in 1939, and the brightly hued example is signed by baseball great Johnny Evers. Its emphatic cachet design stands as an attractive showpiece on its own, but the Hall of Famer’s black fountain pen autograph (“John J. Evers”) accentuates its significance as a tribute to the pastime’s bygone era. The important memento bears an even shade of toning, yet is otherwise in fine condition. Evers, of course, was a mainstay of the Chicago Cubs, spending 12 of 18 seasons stalking the infield for the Northside ballclub. Having died suddenly of a stroke in 1947, his signature remains among the most difficult to acquire. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from James Spence, as well as an unsigned glossy photo. JSA/Mike Gutierrez Auction LOA and RRAuction COA.
