Description

Signed “compendium” including his essay on his most famous equation

Here offered is a tremendous piece of Americana: a signed, first edition, first printing copy of Albert Einstein’s (1879–1955) important compendium titled Out of My Later Years. Einstein’s signature contrasts exceptionally well against the front free end page, on which the physicist penned, “To Dr. Lionel Auster, A. Einstein, 1950.” This “A. Einstein” inscription represents the subject’s usual penning, though as routine as it may have been for the savant to employ that manner of signature, it remains an exceedingly desirable autograph (toning at the scripting is present, yet generally unobtrusive). The book itself, printed in 1950 by New York publisher Philosophical Library, shows a hint of subtle toning at the covers with slight bumping at the corners. These generally unobtrusive imperfections notwithstanding, the 282-page, hardcover memento (5.75 x 8.75) exhibits otherwise clean display properties and remains in fine condition. The contents of this compendium were drawn from several of Einstein’s important works, as the book touches upon not only his theory of relativity, but social, religious, and educational ideals, as well.
