TLS as President, one page, 7 x 10, White House letterhead, April 11, 1968. Johnson writes to Robert W. Martin, Jr. in South Boston. In full: “I deeply appreciated your thoughtful letter, which Speaker McCormack graciously forwarded to me. My public life has taught me the value of loyalty. I am proud to know the strength of your in this hour. Many years of public service have also taught me that Americans owe their first allegiance to the ideals on which our Nation has achieved greatness. Peace and freedom demand that we take our stand now, joined as one vigorous and determined people. I am heartened by your understanding and support….” Light toning to edges, otherwise fine condition.
