Description

“My butcher demands the same fee per pound as he does from Mr. Paul Getty.”

TLS signed “Hirschfeld,” one page, 8.5 x 11, personal letterhead, December 27, 1988. A terse letter to an admirer looking for a freebie. In part: “The system demands that all services and goods, including my work, be paid for with contemporary money. It seems gratuitous of me to point out the folly of your request.... The laws of economics does not distinguish between art and commerce. My butcher demands the same fee per pound as he does from Mr. Paul Getty.” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. In fine condition, with intersecting mailing folds. RRAuction COA.
