Description

BLOODSHED BEGINS: BEAUREGARD signs a photo hours after leading the attack on Fort Sumter that marked the beginning of the Civil War

Carte-de-visite photo, 2.25 x 4.25 photo, signed in ink on the reverse “Charleston, So. Ca., April 13th, 1861, G. T. Beauregard, Genl. C.S.A.” The Civil War officially began on the day before, April 12, when Confederate forces under Beauregard’s command attacked Fort Sumter at Charleston. In very good condition, with fading to image (which is still fully visible), tiny corner chip, and mild scattered soiling. The writing is dark and distinct. A most historic and remarkable association! RRAuction COA.
