Benson-Scott, heading the letter “Private.” In full: “Many thanks for your letter, but what you so lightly indicated is a regular Epic, and a most fascinating one. Kingsley in ‘Westward Ho!’ has given a study of the end of the Armada which would take some beating, and I’m afraid I’m not the hand to give it to him….” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
