Description

On his own work: “The abhorrence I feel against all this past and my writings of that period”

ALS in English, penned in his usual attractive purple ink and signed “B. Pasternak,” one page, 8 x 11.25, August 28, 1959. Pasternak writes to writer Jinadasa Vijayatunga. In part: “I much enjoyed your literary sketches about our classics. Fascinating, lively written short notices and studies indeed! If I took lesser pleasure with the clipping concerning myself, it lies in the abhorrence I feel against all this past and my writings of that period. But does not and cannot regard you in any way. As for the Chekov and a note on his Theatre for your Stage Society I fondly should like to write it if I find sufficiently time thereto. With greatest readiness I fulfil your other request (about a photograph). But I have now only bad ones (from the year 1956. Thank you repeatedly….” Intersecting mailing folds (vertical fold to last name) and a few creases and wrinkles, otherwise fine condition. JSA/John Reznikoff Auction LOA and RRAuction COA.
