American film director (1889–1943) who, after apprenticing under D. W. Griffith, went on to direct such classics Tarzan the Ape Man and four films in the popular Thin Man series. A Christian Scientist, Van Dyke refused medical treatment for his terminal cancer and died at the age of 53. Vintage matte-finish 8 x 10 photo of Van Dyke in his Marines uniform, signed and inscribed in ink, “With best wishes to Miss Margie Harris, W. S.
