Jewish chemist and statesman (1874–1952) who helped secure the Balfour Declaration of 1917, served as President of the World Zionist Organization, and became the first President of Israel. TLS signed “Ch. Weizmann,” one page, 5.5 x 9, Hotel St. Regis, New York letterhead, June 17, 1942. Weizmann writes to David Ben-Gurion, handwriting the salutation. In full: “I received your note yesterday. In writing you before I had in mind not only your action here, but also in London. Today I am leaving for a trip in the Middle West and I do not think that any useful purpose will be served by continuing the correspondence further….” Small tear to top edge, and mild handling wear, otherwise fine condition.
