“SOAP, OIL, PICKLES & DRY GOODS”: ADAMS signs ship’s papers for a schooner bound for Haiti

Partly printed DS as president, one page, 18.75 x 15.5, June 16, 1798. A four-language ship’s papers issued to Nehemiah Burr, “master or commander of the Schooner called Liberty of the burthen of 93 tons or thereabouts, lying at present in the port of Charleston bound for Cape Francois [Haiti] and laden with Provisions…Soap, Oil, Pickles, & Dry Goods.” Countersigned by Timothy Pickering as Secretary of State. Two original paper seals remain intact. Matted and framed with a large portrait of Adams to an overall size of 36 x 23.5. Light storage folds (one through a single letter of first name), scattered toning (mostly along vertical folds), and light edge wear, otherwise fine condition.
