Description

“A GRAND PERSON AND A DEAR FRIEND”: HARLOW inscribes a photo to GARBO

Rare and remarkable matte-finish 11 x 14 photo of a reclining, fur-clad Harlow, signed and inscribed in ink, “To Brownie, a grand person—and a dear friend, Jean.” The inscribee was evidently none other than the great and famously reclusive Greta Garbo, who adopted “Brownie” (as well as the related “Harriet Brown” and “Harry Brown”) as a pseudonym and nickname. (RRAuction has, in fact, handled a number of Garbo’s handwritten letters signed as “Brownie.”) In very good condition, with a few small edge tears (one, at left edge, entering background near elbow; partial repair attempt), a few (mainly marginal) creases, mild soiling, tiny spots of skinning to dark background at top, and slightly irregular ink flow. A singular association between two of the most legendary figures in Hollywood history! PSA/DNA Auction LOA and RRAuction COA.
