For my work/ pretty brisk now/ obliges me to forego all public, and many private, appearances.” James Irving Scott was the proprietor and editor of the Reporter, a London monthly financial journal. Both Serle and Scott were trying to get Dickens to join a committee against the Sabbatarian postage regulations.
