Pioneering feminist (1815–1902) who, at the first women’s rights convention in Seneca Falls, New York in 1848, presented her “Declaration of Sentiments,” outlining her view of the rights and aims of American women and contributing in no small part to the adoption of women’s suffrage more than half a century later. ALS, one page, 5.5 x 8.75, October 13. Stanton writes to Mr. Willetts. In full: “Many thanks for your kind offer to admit me to your club, but I decline all such invitations as they invite new cares & duties & I am trying to cut loose from all unnecessary ties & organizations….” Mild toning and a few minuscule chips, otherwise fine condition.
