Military officer (1841–1864) who, at 23, was the youngest general in the Confederacy at the time of his appointment in 1863. Kelly died a year later from wounds sustained during a raid on Sherman’s communication lines near Franklin, Tennessee. Scarce ink signature, “Very respectfully, John H. Kelly, C.S.A.,” on a lightly lined light blue 3.25 x 1.25 slip clipped from the close of a letter. Matted and framed with a photo and engraved plaque to an overall size of 22.25 x 17.
