Signatures, “Helen Keller” (in her usual pencil), “Anne Mansfield Sullivan” (ink), and “Faithfully yours, J[oseph] Jefferson” (prominent American stage actor, 1829–1905; ink) on an off-white 6 x 3.25 slip. In her celebrated memoir The Story of My Life, Keller fondly recalls her acquaintance with Jefferson, noting that after one of his performances in Rip Van Winkle, “Miss Sullivan took me to see him behind the scenes, and I felt of his curious garb and his flowing hair and beard. Mr. Jefferson let me touch his face so that I could imagine how he looked on waking from that strange sleep of twenty years, and he showed me how poor old Rip staggered to his feet….” Matted and framed with a period photo of all three to an overall size of 12 x 19. In fine condition, with vertical fold through sheet (touching sigantures). R&R COA.
