In the first months of the Korean War, Truman commemorates a new veterans’ hospital in his home state

TLS, one page, 6.75 x 8.75, White House letterhead, August 21, 1950. Truman writes to Colonel John J. Phelan in St. Louis. In part: “I am happy to send greetings to my fellow citizens of Missouri on the occasion of the ground-breaking of the new 500-bed Veterans Administration Hospital in St. Louis, and to inform you that at my suggesting it will be named the John J. Cochran Veteran Hospital, in memory of the late St. Louis Congressman, whose distinguished career was marked throughout by a devoted and effective concern for the welfare of our veterans. This hospital is another step forward in providing medical care second to none for ill and disabled veterans of our wars….” Mild soiling and handling wear, otherwise fine condition. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
