Renowned American painter (1778–1860) regarded as one of the finest portrait artists of his day. Peale, one of several artist brothers named by their father after Old Masters, is best known for his multiple portraits of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. Manuscript DS, signed “Rem. Peale,” one page, 7.5 x 2.75, April 30, 1842. A receipt for $33.00 “in full of collections for the Biblical Repertory on a/c of Mrs. E. S. Peabody up till date.” The Biblical Repertory was a long-running theological periodical.
