Peale, one of several artist brothers named by their father after Old Masters, is best known for his multiple portraits of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. Manuscript DS, signed “Rem. Peale,” one page, 7.5 x 2.75, April 30, 1842. A receipt for $33.00 “in full of collections for the Biblical Repertory on a/c of Mrs. E. S. Peabody up till date.” The Biblical Repertory was a long-running theological periodical. [Please note that while the date, at first glance, appears to be 1862, a docket on the reverse confirms that the hastily written third digit is indeed a 4.] Very faint show-through from docket, otherwise very fine condition.
