“The yellow fever in the South”

TLS, one page, 8 x 10.5, Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute letterhead, December 2, 1897. Washington writes to Mary Shannon in Newton, Massachusetts. In part: “The yellow fever in the South has kept me here so long this year that I fear I shall not be able to call upon you in person as I have done before. If you can see your way clear to help our institution again this year I shall be very grateful if you will send your donation to me here….” Framed to an overall size of 10.5 x 13. Intersecting mailing folds (vertical fold to first name) and mild handling wear, otherwise fine condition. R&R COA.
