ALS as president, two pages, 5 x 8, Executive Mansion letterhead, November 18, 1886. Letter to a gentleman in New York, in his difficult to decipher hand. In part: “A few days ago a young gentleman called…[regarding] a letter from you the tone of which led me to suppose that you were instrumental in the success of his application for the Consulate…” In fine condition, with partial separation to both bisecting horizontal folds, and a mild shade of toning.
