Signing ship’s papers for an 1852 whaling vessel

Partly printed DS, signed “Millard Fillmore” as president and “Danl. Webster” as secretary of state, one page, 21.25 x 16, August 3, 1852. A four-language ship’s papers issued to James L. Henry, “master or commander of the ship called Empire … lying at present in the port of New Bedford bound for the Pacific Ocean and laden with provisions, stores, and utensils for a whaling voyage.” The embossed paper seal remains intact. In very good condition, with intersecting folds (touching Fillmore’s last name; scattered small holes and separations), light allover toning, and a few wrinkles, chips, and tears (archival reinforcements to reverse).
