Description

General during the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812 (1751–1829) who served as Secretary of War under Thomas Jefferson. Franking signature, “War Department, H. Dearborn,” on a 5 x 3.25 (panel size) postal cover addressed in another hand to William Linnard in Philadelphia and bearing a Washington City postmark and “FREE” ink stamp. A docket on a flap (continuing to the bottom of the panel) describes the original contents and dates the item to July 10, 1806. In very good condition, with two vertical folds with associated toning (one through “D”), chip to top edge, and show-through from writing on reverse behind signature. R&R COA.
