HARD TIMES: FRANKLIN signs a 1786 bankruptcy document

Partial manuscript DS, signed “B. Franklin, Presid.” [of the Supreme Executive Council of Pennsylvania], one page both sides, 9.75 x 7.5, November 17, 1786. A legal petition in a bankruptcy case. Accompanied by an antique portrait engraving signed by the artist, Jacques Reich. In good to very good condition, with central portion of original document missing (the top and bottom portions, with small ink touch-ups, joined at a later date), intersecting folds (a few small separations), a few chips and tears slightly touching text (vertical tear to bottom edge, slightly touching paraph, with neat, early repair), toning from previous framing, light wrinkling (slightly touching signature), and faint show-through of ink. The signature itself is clear, dark, and otherwise unaffected. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
