Signing a petition for a midshipman

Manuscript DS, one page, 8 x 10, January 20, 1835. A petition on behalf of Edward A. Barnet of Pennsylvania “for the appointment of Midshipman.” Countersigned by 11 others, including future Vice President R. M. Johnson. In very good condition, with sheet partly affixed to slightly larger sheet, intersecting folds, and scattered light toning, wrinkling (slightly touching Buchanan), and staining. Buchanan’s signature is dark, clear, and otherwise unaffected. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
