“HOLD FAST TO ISLAM”: MALCOLM X sends greetings from the newest Nation of Islam temple

Malcolm X, born Malcolm Little (1925-1965), was an American minister, public speaker, and human rights activist. After living in a series of foster homes, Little became involved in the criminal underworld in Boston and New York, and, in 1945, was sentenced to eight to ten years in prison. While in prison, Little became a member of the Nation of Islam. After his parole in 1952, he changed his surname to “X” and became one of the Nation's leaders and chief spokesmen. Less than a year after he left the Nation of Islam, Malcolm X was assassinated while giving a speech in New York. Rare ALS signed “Bro Malcolm,” on the reverse of a picture postcard of the Kellogg Center for Continuing Education at Michigan State University, Lansing, 5.5 x 3.5, no date [postmarked August 7, 1955]. Malcolm X writes to Brother Roy X (Munford) and his family in New Jersey. In full: “Greetings from the Muslims here in Lansing, one of our newest Temples. They all say ‘hold fast to Islam, for it’s the firmest handle that never breaks.’ As Salamu Alaykum.” In fine condition, with some mild edge toning. A scarce format for this civil rights icon! Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
