Description

An Ernest effort from the “Line King”

Renowned, durable American caricaturist (1903–2003) best known for his distinctively fluent and whimsical portraits of entertainment personalities. Original drawing of “Tennessee” Ernie Ford, ink on double-weight illustration board, 8.5 x 15, signed and inscribed at lower right, “For Bill Kahn who took the only photo of me in which I do not need a haircut, Hirschfeld.” The reverse bears Kahn’s affixed business card and a photocopy of the photo to which Hirschfeld evidently refers. Hirschfeld’s trademark “Nina” appears between Ford’s eyebrows. In very good condition, with light allover toning, a touch of mild scattered soiling, and faint staining to left of figure (bearing slight evidence of a cleaning attempt; small unobtrusive stain to forehead). The faults can easily be minimized with creative matting and framing. R&R COA.
