German field marshal (1891–1944) who earned the sobriquet “The Desert Fox” for his tactical genius as Commander of the Afrika Korps. In 1944 he was implicated in a plot to assassinate Hitler; given the choice of suicide or a trial, he ended his own life with poison. Vintage 3.5 x 5.5 German postcard head-and-shoulders photo of Rommel in his dress uniform, signed in pencil, “Rommel.” Moderate contrast to middle portion of signature, and a couple trivial spots, otherwise fine condition.
