Army general (1880–1959) whose ambitious plan for rebuilding Europe in the aftermath of World War II earned him the Nobel Peace Prize in 1955. Vintage printed quotation on a cream 5 x 3 card, signed in fountain pen “G. C. Marshall” as Chief of Staff. The quotation reads, in full: “We are determined that before the sun sets on this terrible struggle, Our Flag will be recognized throughout the World as a symbol of Freedom on the one hand and of Overwhelming Power on the other.” Accompanied by a secretarial letter of transmittal on War Department letterhead dated July 18, 1944. Please note that the quotation is contemporary to the card and was not added at a later date.
