Description

She is likely best remembered for her portrayal of Maleva, the old Roma fortuneteller in the 1941 horror classic The Wolf Man. Ouspenskaya died from a stroke several days after receiving severe burns in a house fire, which she had caused by falling asleep while smoking a cigarette. Uncommon TLS signed “Madame Ouspenskaya,” one page, 7.25 x 10.5, Maria Ouspenskaya Studio of Dramatic Art letterhead, October 16, 1941. Letter to an admirer. In part, “I have completed two pictures, ‘King’s Row” and ‘Shanghai Gesture,’ and I hope to start another one next month. The fall term of my school has also opened so you can see I don’t have much time to spare.” In fine condition, with a few light creases. R&R COA.
