A contract for Brando’s role as Mexican revolutionary Emiliano Zapata in the 1952 film Viva Zapata!, for which he is to be paid $10,416.66 per week during production. The film, written by John Steinbeck, was Brando’s second screen collaboration with director Elia Kazan, who in the previous year had helmed the classic A Streetcar Named Desire. Viva Zapata! was nominated for five Academy Awards (including a Best Actor nod for Brando), and Brando’s costar, Anthony Quinn, won for Best Supporting Actor. Those closely following the current presidential campaign may be interested to know that, according to a report by cnn.com, John McCain singled out Viva Zapata! as his favorite film. The script is contained in its original folder; the signed page has been carefully removed and is matted together with a photo to an overall size of 22 x 17.
