Description

American politician (1782–1852), much esteemed for his eloquence as an orator, who was a longtime member of Congress and Secretary of State under Harrison and Tyler. ALS signed “D. Webster,” one page, 7.75 x 9.75, February 6 [1824]. Webster writes to secretary of war John C. Calhoun. In full: “I will call at the office overtly, to be informed on the subject of the Pension mentioned in this letter….” In good condition, with intersecting folds (complete separation to horizontal folds; early glassine reinforcement to reverse), a few edge tears, soiling and light staining, early dealer’s catalogue description affixed at bottom edge, and wrinkling and handling wear. The signature is clean and unaffected by any faults. R&R COA.
